From our Ancient Egypt collection — inspired by the sky-watchers of the Nile. Read the story in The Sky Through History.
Capricorn is the sign of the long climb. It stands for patience, ambition, and getting there one steady step at a time. If you were born December 22 – January 19, this one is yours.
WHAT THE ART MEANS
The art wraps all the way around, and the black background blends into the black ceramic so the gold looks carved into the cup instead of stuck on it. One side is the name side: the Capricorn symbol in a gold cartouche, CAPRICORN in worn gold letters underneath, and the real Capricorn constellation traced in fine gold lines above. Turn the mug and the other side is a sea-goat — the front half a horned goat, the back half a curling fish tail — above stylized waves. Slim columns of waves, lotus flowers, and ankhs frame each side of the handle. The two halves are the point: Capricorn climbs like a goat but comes from deep water, so it is both grounded and mysterious. A cartouche is the oval, rope-edged frame Egyptians carved around a name that mattered, so putting the zodiac symbol inside one treats your sign like a name worth protecting.
The whole Ancient Egypt collection is drawn in antique gold, sandstone, and teal with deep lapis blue, printed in a flat, carved-relief style like painted stone. It is meant to look like something dug up rather than something printed — old, warm, and a little worn. We are not claiming ancient Egyptians drew the zodiac this way. We took their art style and used it to tell the sky’s story.
